How to ensure your safety in the shopping mall?



During festival season, there can be a lot of hustle-bustle in shopping malls. There are chances that you might lose your way and end up not knowing where you are heading.

Given the increasing crime statistics in cities, it is important to know the common security tips that can help you from getting into trouble.

Here are some safety tips that ensure your safety in shopping malls:

  • Always stay alert and trust your instincts. It is obvious that you will head out for shopping with a long list during the holiday season, everybody does. Make sure that you are alert and aware of the surroundings. If you feel unsafe or see anybody with malicious intentions, trust your instincts and ask for help immediately.
  • Park your car in a well lit area that is near your destination. Ask the security people to escort you to the vehicle if you are shopping alone in the night. Carry your keys in your hand when you are walking to your car, so that you can use it as a weapon if needed.
  • Do not keep your valuables like wallet, cell phones, and gifts in the plain view inside the car; keep them safe in the trunk where nobody can see.
  • Parking areas are not places to relax or talk on phones. Enter your car after shopping, lock the door, fasten the seat belt and drive.
  • When leaving your car look in and around to make sure everything is okay.
  • Keep the cash in the front pocket and try not to carry a wallet or pocketbook. If you wish to carry a purse make sure you choose the cross body type messenger bag, which is difficult for the purse snatchers to take.
  • Having a friend accompanying you for shopping can be fun and safe too.
  • Decide a meeting point with your kids inside the mall in case if you get separated.
  • Make sure your children know their full name, phone number, parent’s name and address, so that if they are lost they can reveal their identity.
  • You need to be extra careful while your kids on the escalators. Make sure that shoelaces are tied and there is no hanging scarf.
  • Make sure that you know the nearest exits. In case of emergency, these exits will be helpful.
